BRIDGEPORT SUMMER STAGE 2018
Session 1: June 25-July 14 (13 and The Lion King Jr)
Session 2: July 16-Aug 4 (Beach Party 5000BC...)
ABOUT THE SHOWS SUMMER 2018:
Session #1 (Grades 5-10) "13": Geek. Poser. Jock. Beauty Queen. Wannabe. These are the labels that can last a lifetime. With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) 13 is a musical about fitting in – and standing out!
Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents divorce. Surrounded by an array of simpleminded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain... or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?
Composed of a precocious cast, no character in 13 is older than the show's title, making it wonderful for theatre companies that feature young artists. The cast is comprised entirely of teenagers, but the stories that come to life here are ageless, the emotions they explore timeless, the laughter and the memories they provide priceless.
Session #1 (Grades 1-5) "The Lion King Jr": The African Savannah comes to life with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle... and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale.
Session #2 (Grades 1-10) "Beach Party 5000BC: Battle for Olympus": Join your favorite teen gods and goddesses as they spend their summer vacation partying at Olympus Beach. There’s one problem. Rivals from the wet side of the shore want to expand their turf and take over Olympus. Who will be victorious when the sand settles?
A brand new musical written by last summer's "Emperor's New Clothes" team of Lance Gray and Clay Zambo. Lance and Clay will write the show based on the types and number of performers that enroll.
DATES/TIMES: Each session will meet Monday-Friday 9:30am-3pm. Drop off begins at 9am. All children need to be picked up by 3:30pm. Session #1 will start June 25th and performances will take place July 13th at 7:30pm and 14th at 6pm for "13" and July 14th at 3pm for "The Lion King Jr." Session #2 will start July 16th and performances will take place August 3rd at 7:30pm and the 4th at 6pm. All rehearsals and performances will be at the University of Bridgeport (244 University, John J. Cox Student Center).
WHAT WILL WE DO EACH DAY:
The day will begin with vocal and physical warm-ups, and then we will rehearse the show, sometimes breaking off into smaller groups. For those not working with the director, we will have break-off choreography and music rehearsals, and even offer workshops in musical theatre dance, improvisation, and music technique!
Both sessions are open to children entering grades 1-10 by September of 2018. For session #1, children entering grades 1-5 will perform "The Lion King Jr." For performers entering grades 5-10, they will perform "13." Students entering 5th grade will get to choose which show they want to perform. All of the students will work together doing vocal and physical warm-ups in the morning and share their lunch time and select workshops, but will rehearse their shows separately. For session #2, all of the students will perform in the show together.
