The Fairfield University Art Museum hosts Family Day events to teach children about art, and to inspire in them an appreciation of art and museums at an early age.

Our most recent Family Day explored Japanese art and culture and was planned in conjunction with Crafting the Elements: Ceramic Art of Modern Japan from the Collection of Carol and Jeffrey Horvitz. Crafts created included Japanese flying carps (koinobori) and clay dishes inspired by the ceramic art in the exhibition. Iliana Begetis, Museum Educator at the Fairfield University Art Museum, provided instruction for the crafts and gave a child-friendly gallery talk about the Japanese ceramics.

Gallery sessions and crafts are always tied to each event’s designated theme and are designed to help children learn to look with greater acuity.

Family Days are free and open to all! They are best suited for children ages 4-10 years old. Registration is required. Two sessions are held each day, one from 1-2:30 and one from 2:30-4. Register for your child at fuam.eventbrite.com.
