Read Across America Event Celebrates Dr. Seuss!

The Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road in downtown Fairfield, CT 06824 (203) 255-7756, will host their 4th annual Read Across America event in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 3:00pm on the 2nd floor. Parents with children ages 3 & up are invited to attend this free event. A live Cat in the Hat costume character will be on hand to greet kids & families and pose for pictures. Fairfield University student volunteers will read Dr. Seuss’ GREEN EGGS AND HAM plus kids can take home a simple craft. Enter to win prizes in a FREE raffle. A child’s ability to read has a direct effect on their future success. Reading with your child helps to increase their vocabulary and improves their reading fluency and comprehension. The National Education Association’s Read Across America began in 1988 as a way to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Seuss by encouraging children to read. Since its creation, educators, parents, caregivers and students have embraced Read Across America and helped to turn it into the largest reading celebration. So, whether it’s your favorite Dr. Seuss book or something new and exciting, the NEA encourages you to: Grab your hat and read with the cat!
