Carmel Academy welcomes pediatric neuropsychologist Dr. Michelle Dunn for a community program exploring social-emotional learning on Wednesday, January 23, 7:00 pm at the school’s Greenwich campus, 270 Lake Avenue.

Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process in which children and adults learn to appreciate individual differences, develop a broader sense of tolerance, and take an active role in creating a kind and inclusive community.
Carmel Academy’s program, Building Friendships, Building Communities, will explore how parents and professionals can use SEL to create strong and diverse friendships among children, which will help them become empathic, thoughtful and responsible adults.

Dr. Dunn is a professor of neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and is also the Director of the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Autism and Communication Disorders. She is the creator and developer of the SOS: Social Skills In Our Schools curriculum, and has provided SEL staff training to many school districts. She is also the author of numerous journal articles and book chapters about children in the field of pediatric neurology.

The program, which includes an audience Q&A, is open to the community at no cost. Registration is required: www.carmelacademy.com/events
