Vernal Pools are temporary ponds formed in spring by rain and melting snow that serve as nurseries for amphibians, such as salamanders, wood frogs, and spring peepers- tree frogs known for their lively springtime song. Followed by a brief introduction, this 90-minute woodland walk along the trails will visit the Vernal Pools of Woodcock Nature Center and explore the role they play in the surrounding forest food web and discover the fascinating amphibians who rely on them for survival.
