This week will feature a different theme each day:
Tuesday, April 19th: The Changing Climate
What is climate change and how does it impact humans and the environment? Throughout the day join OSV’s interpreters to learn the differences between weather and climate, how climate has changed from the 19th century to today, and the history of the environmental movement.
Wednesday, April 20th: On the Farm and in the Garden
Today at the Village you can help farmers and gardeners for the upcoming growing season! Try your hand at plowing and planting seeds in the gardens. You can also join OSV’s interpreters to learn about best practices to help your farm or garden thrive!
Thursday, April 21st: Farm to Table
Today, learn all about the importance of kitchen gardening in the 19th century. Help OSV’s gardeners plant seeds, then head to the households to see how those plants are used in the kitchen. Learn about some home and garden practices of the 19th century that you can use at home today!
Friday, April 22nd: Modern Day Issues
There are many environmental issues that we face in the 21st century that 19th century New Englanders did not have to worry about (as much). Join us today to discuss these issues, such as extreme weather conditions, changing growing seasons, and pollution. Also, get an insider’s look into how OSV combats these issues and adapts our interpretation of the 19th century into a 21st-century landscape.
Saturday, April 23rd: The Human Impact
What role do humans play in the changing climate? Join OSV’s interpreters to learn about how humans have altered the environment historically and today, from invasive species to industrialization.
Sunday, April 24th: Making Positive Change
Today is all about the positive changes humans can make on the environment. Learn about the ways we can combat climate change and how to adapt to the new environment of the 21st century. Talk about environmental stewardship, the best plants for pollinators, and how to plan for the extremes of today’s climate.
