Red Deer Camp is a wilderness skills camp at Hawk Circle Wilderness Education, that teaches the skills of hunting and gathering to campers. Here we make our own bows and arrows, throwing sticks, learn to make slings and how to track animals, become invisible in the forest and much more. Gathering activities start with making a gathering basket from Elm Bark, then a digging stick, and then go on wandering hikes that offer campers a chance to put their gathering skills to good use!
We practice with our bows, spears and throwing sticks each day, and have fun making crafts at the height of summer!
Note: No animals will be hunted or harmed in this camp.
Campers sleep in hand made timber framed cabins in our comfortable wilderness camp, share hearty, healthy, home cooked meals and work in small groups with experienced staff to insure quality instruction and positive results with their skills and crafts. We aim for a transformative, powerful experience that will literally change the way your kids see the woods and themselves, through developing REAL skills and leadership.
We are located in Cherry Valley, NY near Cooperstown, in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. Established in 1989.
