Homeschool Day: Navigation, Charts & Maps at Connecticut River Museum

*The event has already taken place on this date: Thu, 11/14/2024
Imagine being out in the middle of an endless ocean with no land in sight. How would you find your way? It’s a good thing you have your tools and chart! Alongside one of our boat captains, we’ll explore why charts and maps were (and still are) crucial to navigators across the globe. We’ll also practice orienteering, charting a course, and students will make a map to bring home.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Curriculum Connection: Students will learn the basics of navigation, including the different kinds of navigation and their purposes, as well as how to read a chart (historic and modern). They will also gain an understanding of the concept of cardinal directions and the importance of using common symbols when making maps.

This drop-off program is for homeschooled learners aged 6-12. Refunds will be given if there is 24-hour notice. Due to the weather, there may be lesson cancelations, to which your payment will be refunded. If you have any questions or concerns, please email the Director of Education, Lauren, at lbdionne@ctrivermuseum.org or call (860) 767-8269 x121
