Kwanzaa Festival

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 12/28/2019
Join us for the Museum's annual Kwanzaa festival, a celebration of African American heritage based on the seven core principles known as Nguzo Saba, which promote unity, culture, and community development. Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday, nor is it only for African Americans. Everyone is invited to learn about the rich cultural legacy and contemporary artistic expressions of the African American community.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

The festival will feature a local artisan marketplace, Black Comics Collective in a live-drawing performance inspired by the seven principles, and Oyu Oro performing music and dance from Afro-Cuban traditions. Kwanzaa is hosted by Linda H. Humes, scholar and storyteller.

Support for Kwanzaa 2019 is provided, in part, by the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, Inc. and the family of Frederick H. Leonhardt.

Kwanzaa 2019 is co-presented by Community Works and New Heritage Theatre Group.

The Kwanzaa marketplace is organized by the Harlem Arts Alliance.
