Great programs for kids, as well as an extensive research library, eight museums & historic buildings, events, tours, lectures, educational programs & exhibits.

At the New Canaan Historical Society, we work to promote an understanding and appreciation of our town’s past, from its colonial days to the modern era and beyond.

The Society’s mission, set at its founding in 1889, is “to bring together and arrange the historical events of the town of New Canaan, the genealogies of the families who have lived in the town, to form a library and to collect relics and curiosities, to form a museum.”

We carry out that mission by maintaining an extensive research library, operating eight museums and historic buildings (including one of only two National Historic Landmarks in New Canaan), and holding a full schedule of events, tours, lectures, educational programs and exhibitions.

Our goal is to educate and enlighten the public in an atmosphere that is welcoming, friendly and fun. Please join us! Our membership rates are reasonable and we are open to all!
