VIRTUAL EVENT: Scat Sniffing Dog and the Search for PNW Whales at 7pm Pacific from Pacific Science Center

*The event has already taken place on this date: Tue, 06/16/2020
Human activity deeply impacts the health of our oceans and its megafauna such as Pacific Northwest whales. COVID-19 has caused sweeping changes to human activity and behavior, but how has it impacted marine wildlife? Since the global shutdown, researchers have observed dramatic changes in water quality, underwater noise and marine wildlife.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

To discuss, we’re joined by whale researcher Dr. Deborah Giles with the UW Center for Conservation Biology and Deep Green Wilderness filmmakers Kevin Campion and Shawnecee Schneider, who have been studying and following Pacifc Northwest whales for years. Dr. Giles will discuss how their team, including Conservation Canine Eba – a whale poop sniffing dog, are investigating the health of endangered Southern Resident killer whales and other species of whales in the Salish Sea. Kevin Campion and Shawnecee Schneider will share segments of their “Right Over the Edge” documentary, which focuses on the search for the North Pacific right whale. They will explain the basics of the North Pacific right whale and why saving them matters right now.
