Drama and Musical Theater Summer Camps for Fairfield County
Do we call it musical theatre or musical theater? Acting or drama or theater arts or performance arts?
It doesn't matter what we call it: Summer is a great time to learn acting, singing, and dancing! With our area's emphasis on performance and music, there are lots of summer camps to choose from. Some are one week, some are more. The following are camps that have elected to be featured on this page, and below it are additional camps of which we at KidsOutAndAbout.com are aware. Know of more? Let us know!
Curtain Call
Curtain Call’s Summerstock and Summerstock Junior are full-day, conservatory-style workshop programs in dramatic and musical theatre arts. Students hone creative, collaborative and social skills as well as performance skills. Rather than focusing on casting and mounting full or mini productions each session, our Summerstock and Summerstock Junior workshops offer study in a variety of areas where students can explore different acting styles and mediums, performance skills and techniques, plays and/or musicals, and tailor the work to the student. Each session runs two weeks (there is NO registration for just one week of any session) and accommodates a maximum of 40 students. Those students are then placed in age-appropriate groups for a rotating schedule of study in a variety of performance subjects under a team of specialized instructors.
Westport Country Playhouse
At CampWCP, young folx are encouraged to use their voice on issues that matter to them and turn it into something theatrical. Middle school students will explore the art of playwriting, acting, and movement (and more!). Guided by a professional Theater for Young Audiences playwright, they will collectively create stories, write their own play, and perform it at the Playhouse for an invited audience of family and friends. Upon graduation, campers will receive a bound copy of their piece, just like the plays published for Broadway. June 27 – July 23. In person at Westport Country Playhouse.
Crystal Theatre
Since 1987, Crystal Theatre has been Fairfield County’s leading performance arts center for children. Our rehearsal spaces are located in the Ben Franklin Community Center in historic South Norwalk, CT. We have programs available for children of all ages, from those as young as four years old to those entering their senior year of high school. Our new community theatre program offers the town a tuition-free community theatre that features both original productions and cover show classics. Our mission is to help every motivated student become a better performer through practice and positive reinforcement.
Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan
For over 20 years, the Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan has offered professional age-appropriate learning opportunities for children in the performing arts from pre-school through high school. We believe in teaching performance skills for a lifetime of enjoyment. Each summer we offer one week theatre performance camps on Monday-Friday mornings mid June through July.
Show camps for pre-school, early elementary and older elementary age children in small classes taught by professional teaching artists. Also, with the Summer Theatre of New Canaan (a professional theatre company) we offer a middle school three week musical theatre camp (the Junior Company) Monday - Friday afternoons in July. All students perform a costumed musical the final class day to an invited audience.
