This two-week course aims to fill a gapin young students’ music education that is too often overlooked:the ability to write, record, and perform one’s own music! Withina friendly and supportive atmosphere, students will learn a varietyof compositional techniques such as basic music theory,structuring a song, and writing stronger melodies. Additionally,students will learn the importance of recording one’s ideas, andwill learn basic notation and recording software. Each studentwill work towards composing a finished piece by the end of thecourse, which will be recorded and compiled into a class album.Students will also collaborate to design a CD cover! Prerequisitesinclude some level of proficiency with an instrument andreading notated music. This is the perfect opportunity to honeyour skills and enter next year’s Young Composers’ Competition.For more information, please contact juanita@darienarts.org.
