First Day Hikes-Archeology Road Show at Meigs Point Nature Center
*The event has already taken place on this date: Wed, 01/01/2025
Start the new year off with your choice of hikes! The first hike will be with Ranger Russ on the Moraine Trail. This hike is a half mile hike, a more challenging hike with rocks to step over and around. You will learn what a moraine is and how it came to be. Along the way you may spot birds or other wildlife so bring your binoculars! The second hike will be with Bob Kuchta, Madison's former tree warden. Bob will share his knowledge about the trees in the park. The walk will either be on the Cedar Island Trail or the Willard's Island trail depending on the size of the group. This walk is flatter and less strenuous than the Moraine. Inside the nature center, the Archeology Road show will be happening. The public is invited to bring artifacts, rocks or fossils and our archeology friends will attempt to identify them and tell their stories.
